MEDICAL MICRODERMABRASION

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is mechanical exfoliation that removes the uppermost layer of dead skin cells from the face, chest and hands. For best results, it is recommended you get a series of treatments and use high-tech anti-aging skin care products.

Other Names for Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is also known as particle resurfacing, power peel, derma-peel or Parisian peel.It takes about 20-30 minutes and there's no down-time for the skin to recover. Thats why it's also sometimes called the "lunchtime peel."

Microdermabrasion uses a powerful device to spray microcrystals of aluminum dioxide (corundum powder) across the skins surface. The aluminum dioxide is a very fine, very hard, sand-like material that blasts away the uppermost layer of dead skin cells on the skin's epidermis.
Microdermabrasion can be uncomfortable around the sensitive tissue of the mouth and nose, but should not be painful. After the treatment, the technician vacuums away the traces of the corundum powder.

Benefits of Microdermabrasion

It leaves skin with a fresher, more glowing look.
Diminishes sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores and coarse textured skin.
It makes it easy for high-tech skin care products to actually penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and help build collagen, which gives skin its youthful appearance.

Your skin is made up of two main layers, the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the layer closest to the outside world. It's a set of dead skin cells on top of another layer of cells that are in the process of maturing. The topmost layer is called the stratum corneum. The stratum corneum mostly acts as a barrier between the outside world and the lower skin layers. It keeps all but the smallest molecules from getting through.

When you put lotions or creams on your skin, some of the moisture passes through the stratum corneum, but not all of it. This layer is home to many minor skin imperfections like fine wrinkle lines and blemishes.
All of the action in microdermabrasion takes place at the level of the stratum corneum. Since it only really targets the epidermis (and not the dermis), it is more accurate to call it micro-epi-dermabrasion. Affecting deeper layers of skin would be painful and harmful, and it would risk permanently embedding the tiny grains into the skin.

Cautions on Microdermabrasion

Check on the training of the person who is going to give you the treatment. Results depend in part on their expertise.
Make sure all traces of the aluminum dioxide is removed from your skin.
Apply sunscreen and stay out of the sun after your treatment. Along with the dead skin cells, you have removed some of your protection.
Micordermabrasion is not recommended for sensitive skin or skin that easily reddens (called couperous.)

Vibradermabrasion

Vibraderm is a procedure that gently exfoliates the top layer of your skin while promoting collagen growth. A vibrating steel paddle is used to treat the face and neck. Treatments with the Vibraderm are pain free and usually take about 10 minutes for the entire face. There is no down time and no messy Aluminum oxide crystals used with Vibraderm.

What is superficial abrasion?

Superficial abrasion is the process of removing dead tissue from the surface of the skin to make it look and feel younger.

What is Vibraderm?

The new Vibraderm is clinically designed and tested employing a patent pending vibrating surface which removes the layer of dead tissue leaving the skin feeling and looking healthier and more radiant.

The Vibraderm difference?

Vibraderm is able to achieve these results without the irritation and redness caused by microdermabraders of the past. Studies have shown Vibraderm to be more effective than microdermabraders and Vibraderm is the preferred treatment by patients.

What areas can be treated?

Vibraderm is the only non-particulate microdermabrader for treating the entire body. Vibraderm can treat arms, legs, chest, stomach, back, as well as the face. Vibraderm is a great compliment to Laser Genesis and other cosmetic treatments.

What does it feel like?

Vibraderm gently vibrates the skin surface. After the treatment a sensitive moisturizer will be applied to treatment area. It is a truly relaxing experience. You might even fall asleep!

What can I expect before the treatment?

There are no complicated pretreatment rituals with this procedure. Prior to treatment we will need to cleanse the treatment area thoroughly.

How many treatments do I need?

The treatment results are often very subtle. On average you may require 4 to 6 treatments in order to achieve the results you are looking for. Every patient's conditions and needs vary.

What results to expect after the treatment?

Immediately after the treatment you will experience some minor redness. The redness typically lasts only a couple hours. Patients often describe the treatment as relaxing and therapeutic with visible results that are subtle yet noticeable. You can expect to immediately return to normal activities.

What are the possible side effects?

Although most patients report few if any side effects, the most commonly noticed might be a slight redness that disappears within a few hours after the treatment. Consult with your medical professional for complete information on the benefits and risks of treatment.
